Liquid foundation can be rather annoying to wear in summers, especially if one has oily/combination skin (like myself). With full coverage and heavy foundations, come breakouts and blemishes. And that, we can’t afford! As I mentioned in my earlier posts on summer skin, I have a typical combination skin with an oily T-zone. I personally have always been up for products that are light on my skin with medium to full coverage. After many trials and errors and a lot of research, I came to know that a foundation in a compact/powder form is best for my skin type.
Before we go into the details of this product, we must first understand the concept of powders/compacts. Powder is usually dusted on top of your entire makeup (concealer and foundation) with a brush or a powder puff, to set it all in place and to make it last longer. Like foundation, powder works only when it is the right shade. An interesting tip I read in my Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual is that oily skin can turn powder yellow or orange with time, and thus sometimes we need to choose a lighter color.
MAC Studio Fix Powder plus Foundation is a two in one product, which solves the purpose of a compact/setting powder as well as a foundation. This product has worked as magic for me, essentially because it gives me medium to full coverage (which is great!) and mattifies my skin at the same time! So my routine includes moisturizing my face (and sometimes using a primer), and then applying this compact. And I’m good to go!
The product comes in a convenient compact, with a powder puff (as you can see in the picture) and hence is quite handy. One can also use a brush to apply this powder, but I personally prefer the puff because it gives me a smooth and opaque finish. I make sure to apply just a little bit of this powder for my everyday and increase the amount when/if I need full coverage. As I have yellow undertones and a warm skin tone, my shade number is 44.5. I got 42.5 earlier but that was too light on my skin and so it appeared ashy after a while.
So here’s an important tip :
Always try the product on and wait around for at least half an hour before you purchase it. Ideally one should try the product, and then go about whatever work you have at the mall and by the end of it, go back to the store and see how the product looks on your skin. Foundations and powders take a while to oxidize and set on your skin, so it is important to give it time to show it’s true work on your skin before you buy it. A product that looks natural on you, as if you have nothing on yet gives you coverage is the one you should go for.
I can safely conclude by giving a big thumbs up to this product! MAC is always a pleasure to own. And this compact is seriously life changing! Ever since I got it, it’s been in my handbag and I depend on it fully for my everyday as well as occasions. My liquid foundations are on complete rest this summer!
